AI Companion 3.0: Zoom’s Next-Gen Meeting Assistant is Here

At its annual conference, Zoom showcased AI Companion 3.0, a major upgrade to its AI‑assistant for workplace collaboration. The new version is designed to go beyond simple note‑taking, offering “agentic AI” capabilities that help users turn conversations into action by understanding context, prioritizing goals, and managing tasks.

Key features include the ability to process and synthesize data from meeting transcripts, chats, documents, and external sources, generating insights on‑the‑fly. It supports advanced note‑taking not only for Zoom calls but also meetings held on other platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Google Meet.

In‑meeting capabilities now include automated action‑item tracking, suggestion of next steps, agenda‑preparation, and meeting‑follow‑up. On the user interface side, Zoom introduced a unified work surface that spans browser and desktop apps and supports writing assistance, research capabilities, and cross‑platform integrations.

Notably, the release adds photo‑realistic AI avatars for virtual meetings, live voice‑translation improvements, and a low‑code builder for businesses to deploy custom AI agents tailored to specific workflows.

The new version will roll out generally in November 2025 for paid Zoom Workplace plans, at no additional cost. A separate add‑on for custom AI agents will be offered at an extra monthly fee.

This update reinforces Zoom’s strategy of embedding AI deeply into its collaboration ecosystem, shifting from video‑meetings to more fully integrated, intelligent work orchestration tools.
