The majority of the food in American Samoa is imported because the fast food chains are popular because of their fixed, low-cost menus but islanders are paying a high price with their health.

The obesity epidemic in the island is even affecting newborns of overweight mothers. with just 15 months old, more than 39 percent of boys and 30 percent of girls are overweight or obese.

Samoa Air, based in Apia, which charges passengers as per their weight, their profit boosted by 20%.

Being overweight and obesity leads to chronic diseases and health complications, such as hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, indigestion and low energy level.

The number of people with obesity in the UK has also more than trebled in the last 25 years.
