ESFF offering new awards and prizes for film-makers at 2017 edition including cash prizes, industry opportunities, trophies, film festival invitations, one-to-one seminar with award-winning Estonian animator, Ulo Pikkov and one of lovely trophies in association with partners for 2017 the Matthew Martino Benevolent Fund and Puppet Animation Scotland.

BEST DIRECTOR AWARD

To be awarded to the director of the overall best film exhibited at the 2017 Edinburgh Short Film Festival.
Eligibility: Any director(s) will be eligible from the films selected for exhibition at the 2017 Edinburgh Short Film Festival.
Prize: Cash award, tickets to film festivals, industry opportunities, trophy
Judges: The winner will be selected by the ESFF Festival selection committee by secret ballot.

BEST ANIMATED FILM AWARD

To be awarded to the director(s) of the best animated film selected for exhibition at the 2017 Edinburgh Short Film Festival.
Eligibility: Any director(s) of an animated short film selected for exhibition at the 2017 Edinburgh Short Film Festival will be eligible.
Prize: Cash Prize, and a unique opportunity, during Puppet Animation Scotland’s manipulate Visual Theatre Festival 2018, to have a one-to-one seminar with eminent Estonian animated film maker and teacher Ulo Pikkov about any aspect of their working practice, and to attend festival films screenings at both Manipulate and the Edinburgh Short Film Festival.

RISING STAR AWARD

To be awarded to the director(s) of the best film from a young film-maker or a film-maker new to film-making.
Eligibility: One or more of the directors should be aged 16-25 or have made not more than 3 short films.
Prize: Cash award, tickets to film festivals, industry opportunities, trophy
Judges: The winner will be selected by the ESFF Festival selection committee by secret ballot.

In addition, the film made by the winner of the Best Director award will be featured on touring programme for other festivals during our 2018 season.
